Spanish B.A.: Minor Requirement

Spanish majors on the 2022-26 catalog must complete a declared academic minor (coursework from a second major can fulfill this requirement) as follows:

Minor & Upper Division SPAN courses (32 units): Plan to complete both of the following:

  • 24-30 units of a declared Cal Poly minor; courses taken for the minor may not also be used to meet other Spanish major requirements or approved electives; and
  • 2-8 units of Upper Division SPAN courses (units necessary to reach 32 total units combined with minor); these courses may not also be used to meet other Spanish major requirements.

Declaring a Minor as part of your B.A. in Spanish

First-year students should plan to declare their minor no later than Fall quarter of their Sophomore year.

Transfer students should declare their minor no later than the end of their first quarter at Cal Poly.

All Spanish majors must formally declare their minor by meeting with Dr. Karen Muñoz-Christian, Department Chair, to complete a Spanish Concentration declaration form. You may schedule an appointment with Dr. Muñoz-Christian by emailing her at kschrist@calpoly.edu.

Important note about declaring your minor

You must ALSO declare your chosen minor with the minor department and submit the appropriate form(s) as determined by that office.
